"I know that with M.E.G.A.S., I can turn the tide, and change the outcome of the war we've lost!

I should have stayed in the future..."

―Kiva, Test Drive.

Commander Kiva Andru is one of the main characters of Megas XLR. She is portrayed as a woman in her mid-twenties who sent a robot to the past in attempt to change the tide between Earth and the Glorft.

Background[]

Kiva served as a military pilot in the year 3037 for the Earth Coalition and was M.E.G.A.S's test pilot during that time. After being sent back in time only to find M.E.G.A.S was destroyed and ultimately rebuilt (and heavily modified) by Coop, she assaults him and Jamie with two other mechs, attempting to retrieve the robot. After being defeated by Megas at the hands of Coop, and having her robot destoryed as well as witnessing his victory over the Glorft, she reluctantly starts to train Coop to fight in Megas.

Kiva continues to be stuck in the past unable to repair the time flux in Megas. Her deep seeded hatred for the Glorft is apparent in the series and she has shown she can and will do whatever it takes to defeat them. Though she is shown not to like either Coop or Jamie in the beginning of the series, her attitude gradually warms to them over the course of the show (an evidence is seen in the episode Space Booty where Kiva prefers staying with Coop and Jamie than with Warlock and even gives her own roll as Coop does before a fight). Kiva appears not to like anything in the past except slushies and potentially beef jerky (in the episode All I Wanted was a Slushie Coop offers to bring her beef jerky).

Biography[]

Season 1[]

Kiva served as a military pilot in the year 3037 for the Earth Coalition and was M.E.G.A.S's test pilot during that time. In an attempt to revert the outcome of the war, she tried to send the M.E.G.A.S robot back in time to the Battle of the Last Stand in the year 3035, in order to tip the scales of Earth's last major offensive against the Glorft. Kiva was warned by her officer that something could go wrong However, a malfunction in the time flux drive sent it back to the 1930s and Kiva (joined by two other mechs) to 'The Present day Jersey' (early 2000s). After being soundly defeated by Coop in Megas, she tries to steal it back, only to find the heavy modification done by Coop has rendered it unpilotable by anyone except him. In order to defend earth from a Glorft attack force, Kiva is forced to take the back seat to Coop as he defeats the Glorft. Finding herself stuck in the past, she decides to stay on and train Coop with the hope of bringing him into the future to help change the outcome at the Battle of the Last Stand.

Kiva begins to both train Coop as well as repair the time flux drive in Megas. She accompanies Coop and Jamie to the Galactic Combat Federation where she tries to salvage parts for the drive before being captured after she has to fight for both Jamie and herself losing possession of all the salvaged. In All I Wanted Was a Slushie, Kiva begins to fulfill her role as back-seat navigator and strategizer. She displays her lack of understanding of both 20th century Earth and the society that both Jamie and Coop come from. She forces Coop to train, also she gets a brain freeze. In the Fat and the Fourious Kiva is mad at Coop and Jaime for shoving fake cheese into Megas and creating a fake cheese monster.

Season 2[]

By the second season, Kiva became more laid back as she acclimated to Coop's lifestyle.

Relationships[]

Coop - Coop and Kiva have a good if not slightly strange friendship. She is sometimes frustrated by Coop's mannerisms or attitudes regarding issues, but has growing faith in his capabilities and both care about one another's well-being.

Jamie - Jamie and Kiva have a love-hate relationship, with Jamie usually insulting her for being too confused about the past. Kiva enjoys to make fun of Jamie as well, usually making remarks on how foolish or weak he is. Though it never develops during the series, the relationship between the two is foreshadowed as romantic. Between Jamie's mutual attraction to Ally (Kiva's distant ancestor) and the relationship between alternative Jamie and alternative Kiva, it is hinted. He and Kiva almost never get along, usually with Kiva remarking on how immature he acts, and Jamie usually tries to make her look like a fool in numerous ways, including giving her brain freeze via slushies, or making her dress up in inappropriate clothing. Kiva does get back at him when she gets the change. Like beating him up when she found out he knocked her out, or to point out he is weak and cowardly, in The Return she pointed out that Magnanimous almost killed HIM only. However Kiva still wanted to go with Jaime to the mall even if he tried to make her look like a fool. Both even worked together in season one finale The Driver's Seat to get Megas to Groft ship to save Coop and at the end their did the rock sign together and smiled at each other. As seen in the series finale Rearview Mirror, Mirror Part 2 it is possible that both end up as a couple together as a couple.

Goat - She finds him disturbing, yet funny. She frequently gets mad at him when he calls her "Red".

Captain Jean-Michel Warlock - A space pirate and captain of the pirate battleship Saving Grace. He vowed to obtain Kiva some day, wanting her to be his queen.

Lunar Captain - He is Kiva advisor, and she has great respect for him.

Personality and Skills[]

Kiva is tough, fearless and intelligent beyond her years. She has a no-nonsense personality but adopts a small sense of humor as the series progresses. She is also shown to be very laid-back and easygoing with others whom she confronts, and is seen getting along with her peers. Kiva is extremely skilled at robotics and hand to hand combat. She also tried to train Coop with her skills but does it in different ways. Also Kiva could use Technopathy, Stamina & the Sword fighting (in episode 17). Due to her rank as a Commander, Kiva would be seen piloting a mech while also taking responsibilities of leadership with other units in episode 1 ("Test Drive"). Furthermore, she initially showed indifference or confusion to recreational activities and snacks of Coop's timeline due to her background as a soldier from a war-torn future where majority of resources and time would be placed more on war effort than luxuries. She can also be very vengeful and merciless as seen when she ruthlessly beats up Jamie at the end of episode 5 as punishment for accidentally knocking her out.

Physical Appearance[]

Kiva is a very attractive woman, she is well built and wears a futuristic body suit complimented by shin guards and boots. Her lips are purplish and has a neural port in the back of her neck that was used to pilot Earth Coalition Mech.  She also had tan skin like Coop, but also had red hair.

In Season 2 she lacks her cheekbone detail, her outfit is simplified a bit, and her face is rounder.

Trivia[]

  • Kiva was born on September 15, 3012, according to Darklos based on the database she had on her ("DMV - Department of Megas Violations"). This marks her age at 25 years old due to the series starting in the year 3037.
    • As a result, according to Viva Las Megas, Las Vegas would have been destroyed by Glorft in 2999 if 13 years before her birth was accounted.
    • Furthermore, she would have been present at Battle of Last Stand as she would be 23 years old; however, it is unknown when she started her enlistment in Earth Coalition's military.
  • Kiva can be considered, to minor degree, a cyborg, as she has a plug-like cybernetic implant on the back of her skull. In the first episode, this was used to biomechanically link her to her personal robot, although it is never seen in use again after she becomes trapped in the past.
  • Ally is her ancestor from the past, but Kiva may have been an orphan due to her statement of having no family to care for her in her timeline.
  • She often refers to Coop and Jamie as "apes", an insult to their supposed evolutionary youth compared to her own.
  • Kiva made a cameo appearance in the OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes episode, Crossover Nexus, as one of the Cartoon Network heroes that were summoned and defeated by Strike.
  • Kiva's voice like Wende Lee such as TK in Digimon, Faye Valentine in Cowboy Bebop.
  • Her first name Kiva is of Irish origin while her surname Andru is of Greek origin.
  • Jody Schaeffler commented on her design change "We wanted to make her "futuristic" in the first one but she just came off as kinda alien so we changed her a bit".
